ISN'T SHE LOVELY SHORTS I: Destiny's Road, MO, RISING POWER, This Land, Genesis

Film(s) To Be Screened

This Land

Runner and advocate Faith E. Briggs used to run through the streets of Brooklyn every morning. Now, she’s running 150 miles through three U.S. National Monuments that lay in the thick of the controversy around public lands. Accompanied by running companions who represent diverse perspectives in what it means to be a public land owner, she assesses what is at stake if previously protected lands are reduced and if the public is largely unaware. THIS LAND is a story about land access told through a journey of inclusion and empowerment.

Destiny's Road

At her high school graduation party, a teenage girl, whose only chance of making it out of poverty is through college, scrambles to recover stolen tuition money before reliant family members catch on to her secret.

Genesis

Genesis is an animated short film about love and creation

RISING POWER

In an increasingly polarized and racially segregated United States, white supremacy and patriarchy are thriving. Conservative and liberal leaders alike refuse to address the outsized impact of institutional and systemic violence on people of color, women, and queer and gender nonconforming people.

Fundamental Episode 5, “Rising Power,” brings us to Madison, Wisconsin, where we meet community organizers Kabzuag and M, co-directors of Freedom Inc. What began as a sexual assault support group has grown into an organization at the forefront of battles over education reform, police brutality, land access and ownership, women’s safety and security, and mental health.

MO

MO is a film about a determined single mother who gives up on her dream of becoming a musician and desperately takes a job as an English as a Second Language teacher to pay the rent. This job ends up opening her eyes to a familiar language and that language is called music; something that we all need in our lives. We all know that music is a universal language but realizing that it’s also helps people learn languages is pretty amazing.
