Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.

12 men a day. 1 every 2 hours.

One of those men was Steve Yates. But Steve was more than a number, he was a father, a son, a brother, and a friend.

Director Ben Akers' childhood best friend.

In this 90 minute Documentary Ben goes on a mission to look at why this is happening. And what men can do to help themselves.

He begins by talking to Steve's family, health professionals and ordinary men who are suffering - often in silence. From there he explores the solutions with people who are using their experiences to create positive change.

In this confronting and raw film, the film-makers want to help men (and their families) understand that it's ok to not be ok, and discuss the ways we can all help ourselves to be mentally fit.

Ultimately, this film of hope, trying to push us all on from Mental Health Awareness to Mental Health Action.

Fifteen years after a psychotic event on the South China Sea flipped his life upside down, Alex, a sensitive, refined and schizophrenic man is at a crossroads. His grand-mother and confidante, who would like to die with peace of mind, insists that he tries to find a girlfriend. His encounter with a young psychotic woman gives birth to an ardently passionate relationship, making him slowly drift away from his usual emotional boundaries. Born and bred Hobartians and best mates, Shaun and Zac, fulfill a lifelong dream to create their own cricket team, despite financial and social struggles to get it up and running. But once they got going, the pair struggled and fought, to motivate and keep their team of Aussie blokes in the game.

Inspired and motivated by their opponents (mostly hailing from the Indian Subcontinent) proven commitment and passion to the game, Shaun and Zac reached out for their support. In stark contrast to the stereotypes that might normally depict Tasmania as a multicultural backwater, Shaun and Zac stood out as two young men open to change, embracing multiculturalism and completely unencumbered by any notions of racial differences, accepting all comers to their team as equals so long as they were committed to the team.

To them it mattered not where you came from, the game was the focus and as well as a desire to overcome their struggles in a place where everyone was equal, and cricket proved to be the great leveler.

Big Boys Don't Cry is a spoken word piece written and directed by Joe Byrne. Its aim is to tackle some of the ideas of what it means to be a man in society today, by going straight in and dismantling the commonly used phrase "Big Boys Don't Cry". Its main objective is to smash the false idea and belief that men and boys should not show emotion, or by in doing so you are somehow weak or inadequate. It touches on subjects such as suicide, loneliness, isolation and the social conditioning that`s shaping the generations of males now growing up amongst us. It is a call to action for men to open up and not to be afraid to express themselves freely. It is estimated that in 2015 in the UK and Ireland alone there were 6,639 suicides and of those 4,997 were males.

The treatment of Bipolar Disorder often entails years of trial and error, whereby patients are required to change their medications numerous times across a lifetime—mood stabilisers, antidepressants, antipsychotic drugs, anti-anxiety pills, sleeping pills, and so on. Mood Atlas is a short documentary exploring Bipolar Disorder through one man's experiences, and his search for hope in neuroscience. Shane is participating in a research study in which a team of scientists are mapping the brain, in order to better predict, diagnose and treat Bipolar Disorder. The psychological tests administered to Shane act as a device, for the film viewer, to enter Shane's psyche and his history. Within his own life they act as a means of giving him hope; people are working to better understand his condition and he can offer something to others who struggle as he does.
