Join KWCFilmFest in 2020 for the second year of this festival that celebrates filmmaking by screening imaginative short films & series, helping network filmmakers with different skills, and sharing knowledge in various film disciplines. Submissions are open to filmmakers of all types, experience and budgets. We welcome submissions from students and professionals.

Kentucky Wesleyan College is located in Owensboro, Kentucky, a thriving city nestled on the banks of the Ohio River just 40 minutes east of Evansville, Indiana and less than two hours from both Nashville, Tennessee; and Louisville, Kentucky; and just three hours from both St. Louis, Missouri and Indianapolis, Indiana.

KWC earned a #8 ranking in 2017 from U.S. News & World Report as a Best Regional College in the South, along with a #3 ranking in the South in the category of "Great Schools, Great Prices," which measures academic quality compared to cost of attendance.

In this emotional roller coaster of a short film, Gurinder is made to choose between his religious beliefs, and his flight to go visit his dying mother in her last days.

Filmmakers Jonathan Moore, Matthew Ulm, Mary McGloin, Jeff Burns, and Chris Hadley join us to tell their stories about challenges faced in filmmaking. Watch and ask any questions you have. (Moderator: Marx Pyle)

Panelists - 

JONATHAN MOORE has been an Associate Professor of Film and Visual Storytelling at Vanguard University for 14 years. An independent filmmaker, screenwriter and occasional actor, he is the producer/director of the popular sports documentary “Coaches’ Wives.” His work has screened in film festivals and on public television. His short screenplay “Revealed” was slated for production by an independent producer in April 2020, until the Covid-19 pandemic hit. 

Moore and his wife, Karen, an LA-based film/TV editor have two docu-series in development with Audacious Media in Los Angeles. They are also in post-production on “Shaken, Not Broken,” a short documentary about legendary Warner Bros. animator Tim Walker. 

Moore holds a B.A. in Mass Communications from Kentucky Wesleyan College and the M.F.A. in Film and Television Directing/Production from the University of California, Los Angeles. (UCLA)  

JEFF BURNS is a Writer/Director/Host and all-around super-geek! He’s the creator of superhero comedy series Super Knocked Up, which has over 5 million views online on Amazon and YouTube. He hosts the award-winning geeky improv comedy show Super Geeked Up LIVE, which he performs online and on stage at comic conventions across North America. Jeff has moderated celebrity, film, gaming, and fan panels at many conventions, including San Diego Comic-Con, Dragon Con, Fan Expo Canada, WonderCon, and Montreal Comiccon.

CHRIS HADLEY is a contributing writer for the web series news blog Snobby Robot and also hosts the indie film/web series podcast The Viewfinder Podcast. As a screenwriter, Hadley wrote and created the cable news parody The Late, Late News, and has also written several episodes of writer/director Yarnel Nicolas' TV nostalgia vlog series Stuck On The Telly.

MARY MCGLOIN is an actor and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. She has a MFA from The Shakespeare Theatre’s Academy for Classical Acting at The George Washington University and a BA from UC Santa Barbara and spent time studying with MXAT at Harvard University.  She's the main creator of the award-winning web series, Tech Bettys, which is still on the festival circuit. It's a workplace comedy about women in tech based on her many years working in startups as a QA Engineer.  

As an actor, she is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA. She has worked Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, and regionally in the theatre, and in film and television. She was nominated for Best Actress in the Bay Area Critics Circle Awards for her performance of Susan in How the World Began. She is co-founder of Goodly Rotten Apple Productions, LLC, which produces film and theatre.

MATTHEW ULM is FortySixTen Studios' lead video producer, and is an award-winning producer and cinematographer. He has won acclaim for his work on corporate, commercial, and cinematic projects; his Emmy-award winning work and multiple Telly awards stand out among his list of industry awards and honors. In addition to his production work, he is also responsible for the in-house graphic design and video production for the Dolby Theatre. His work for the Dolby is featured yearly in promotion for major events such as the Oscars and America's Got Talent, and his reel includes a who's who of A-list celebrities, such as Steven Spielberg, John Williams, and Allison Janney. Matt is a proud graduate of Indiana State University, where he spent two years as president of the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors and has spoken at their commencement. 

In his spare time, Matt is an avid cinephile and a Triple Crown and Distinguished Toastmaster winner at Toastmasters International, where he's been recognized for his proficiency as a public speaker.

MARX PYLE is an adjunct professor at KWC who has taught film production and webseries. He co-hosts the podcast GenreTainment, is the author of the nonfiction book "Television on the Wild Wild Web", and is an award-winning filmmaker who graduated from Vancouver Film School.
