Privilege

Privilege is a short film about two young Black men who meet in a local barbershop and start off on the wrong foot after a heated argument. These men represent the African Diaspora, and the constant misunderstanding between the different groups of the Diaspora. In this film, the constant battle of “who has/had it worse” and “who is/was better off” is the main topic discussed.

-SHIP: a visual poem

A black boy learns contradicting lessons of manhood and masculinity on the day of his cousin’s funeral.

Grandpa’s Hands

Grandpa’s Hands is short narrative film about a young professional, Jackson, who makes a rare visit with his Grandfather and struggles to reconnect due to his Grandfather’s dementia. The dementia echoes the pain of betrayal and racial discrimination. When Jackson’s Grandfather confronts an unwanted visitor his past and present merge bringing Jackson along for an important lesson of love and respect.

2 Black Boys

Giovanni Adams' poetry on his black queer journey from boyhood to manhood, isolation to intimacy, roots the narrative of this film that combines spoken word, dance and song.

Black Boys Cant' Cry

Javion is a dutiful and loving black father. He is the protector and provider of the family, including his wife, daughter, and grandmother. However, he is haunted by a secret that he continues to bury in silence. Not knowing how to deal with the trauma, he attempts to hide the behemoth inside him that is trying to break out. But not until tonight when he is finally overwhelmed, and he attacks his family while he ultimately comes face-to-face with his painful past. Only the prayerful hands of his grandmother can help channel his buried emotion from taking control.

Uncle Mike

'Uncle Mike' tells the story of a young black man and his mentor; and the impact that prostate cancer has on their relationship. Statistically, one in four black men will go on to develop prostate cancer at some point in their lives. This short film aims to spread awareness amongst men and encourage them to talk with each other, and to seek advice and support.

Bloom

In BLOOM, an awkward inner city teen enters a vicious rap battle with ulterior motives. Darnel, a backpack strapped, scrawny teen who wears his heart on his sleeves, is the last person you'd expect to challenge notorious gangster rapper Yung Ammo. Nevertheless, he throws caution to the wind, putting both his reputation and physical well-being on the line. The results are beyond what anyone expected.
