Marital discord and romantic desperation, a lonely old man faced with isolation, a business under threat from Goverment bureaucracy, and a remarkable tale of wartime survival in this selection of films from Russia and Eastern Europe.

Dasha

Dasha, a social service volunteer who has been regularly visiting a lonely old man for five years, is offered the job of her dreams in another city. Having agreed, she, on the day of her departure, comes to see the old man. When speaking, she barely restrains her bitterness, only intensifying when she was leaving and the old man confesses that she was the only living person who had been his companion all these years. Dasha leaves, and the old man remains with an intolerable feeling of an all-consuming, inescapable loneliness...


The Ring

A student decides to propose to his girlfriend, and visits his divorced parents to uncover the painful history of their marriage.


What Would You Like To See?

Bouncing between driving lessons and Boogie Woogie dance classes, Stáňa looks for confidence in her expression and relationship with Brecht, a photographer searching for his own perfect image. Faced with disappointment, Stáňa soon learns to see through the trivial moments in her life and discovers her inner gift.

A lyrical, impressionistic journey into the experience of self awareness, “What Would You Like to See” is a tale of life learning, dance and acceptance.

Jewish shtetl, Ukraine, 1941. A box of mother’s hairpins – the only thing left from his family – is Yasha’s last chance to escape German invaders and rescue his new friend, a wounded goat kid.
