The Plot

Gender-based pricing is illegal in the state of California, yet most hair salons charge women more than men for a haircut. Fair Cut, directed by Kelly Tittle, interviews hair stylists all over California to uncover the truth about gender- based pricing and why it persists, even with laws in place to prevent it. Fair Cut questions people on the street about why they think women’s haircuts are sometimes 50% more expensive than men’s cuts, and then puts their theories to the test by asking stylists how they justify charging one sex more money than the other for the exact same service. Fair Cut sits down with Congresswoman Jackie Speier for a conversation on the importance of ending gender-based pricing discrimination. Fair Cut will make you question your assumptions, consider your biases, and open your eyes to see how you, too, may be overpaying for your haircut.
