SAME GENDER LOVING SHORTS: Code Switch, Taking the Long Road Home, (Un)claimed, Body Language, Her, Unsaid / MotherHOOD

Film(s) To Be Screened

MotherHOOD

A Mother endures hardships and becomes a community activist while raising her children in the poverty and drug stricken "640” neighborhood of Washington D.C.

Code Switch

Code Switch follows a Black trans person as they navigate the barbershop, illuminating the complexity and dynamism of gender expression.

Taking the Long Road Home

A young, queer, Black Panamanian filmmaker takes a journey of faith and discovery with Black spiritual leaders from diverse backgrounds. Through conversation and contemplation, each leader—two trans, one gay, one queer, and two straight, cisgender parents of a lesbian daughter—shares their own personal story of cultural, societal, spiritual, and personal challenges as they work to create spiritual homes for themselves and others. Filmmaker Qiydaar Foster shares a deeply personal story at the intersections of identity, family, and faith.

(Un)Claimed

(Un)Claimed follows Fiona Devers, a facilities-manager-but-wanna-be-performer, and her longtime girlfriend Kimberly Mills as they navigate polyamory for the first time. With the help of friends, can this motley crew learn to be true to themselves while realizing that love doesn’t always look the way you expect?

Her

HER is a Coming-of-Age Dramedy about a Black Bisexual Woman who struggles with depression as she navigates her late twenties. Imani finds escape through dance, dating apps, family, & friends.

BODY LANGUAGE

BODY LANGUAGE is a candid conversation about body image and body experience for Black gay, queer, and same gender loving men. Men share their personal journeys through childhood, coming into the gay community, and acceptance and rejection based on body type.  BODY LANGUAGE is an authentic dialogue about pain, heartache, healing, and self-love. This film speaks directly to Black g/q/SGL men but the ideas around body perfection, and what influences our perspectives, are universal.

Unsaid

It's a visual adaptation of poems from the book Words In My Head, which explore emotions surrounding gender, sexual orientation, blackness and feminism through the eye of a gay director from a homophobic African country Nigeria.
