International Independent Entry Level Film Festival

Accepting films ranging from Students to Established Celebrities!

We are a festival focused on ONE thing - you, the Independent Filmmaker !

FRIDAY SPOTLIGHT: Science Fiction & Fantasy, Cult Classics/Worst Films and Horror!

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT: Short Films, Documentaries and Features from around the globe. Special Focus: Veterans in Film.

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT: A FULL DAY focused on Women in Film!

AUSTIN INDIE FEST fills a major gap, finding a place for new film makers who want to compete in a high quality Film Festival, but aren't quite ready for large festivals like: SUNDANCE, CANNES, AFI, SXSW or the Austin Film Festival!

NO FAVORITES, NO CLIQUES - JUST GREAT INDIE FILMS!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are few things you'll want to know:
1) SCREENING BLOCKS:  Every Screening Block is INTERACTIVE!  YOU HAVE THE CHANCE to talk with the audience and other filmmakers at the end of your assigned block.

2) TICKETS: Tickets can be purchased for the following:
----- Just your Screening Block (no need for cast/crew/family members to buy a whole festival ticket)
----- One Day (during the Interactive part of the festival)
----- The Entire Weekend (during the interactive part of the festival)
----- One Day (After the fest has wrapped.  No interactivity will be available)

3) "TRAILERS":  Bingewave this week started automatically creating "Trailers" for each film, but they're more of a snapshot into your film, not an actual trailer.  We don't have any control over this.  It's a feature that they added that we have mixed feelings on here at the fest.

4) DAILY SCREENINGS: Each day of the festival has a particular focus:
- Friday (Sci-Fi/Fan Films/Horror and "Worst Films")
- Saturday (Everything under the sun with a focus on Veterans in Film)
- Sunday (Women in Film)
Each film can be watched at any time and in any order with a FESTIVAL PASS or DAY AFTER TICKET

5) AWARDS: We will hold our awards ceremony on Sunday at 7pm Texas time (Central Standard)
Awards and Winning Laurels will be electronically sent out after the fest over the next couple of weeks (we have a holiday this week in the US.)

6) The Virtual site is live and we're experiencing it for the first time with you!  It's a new learning curve for us, so if there are any hangups, please be patient!  We're here to help you!

If you'd like to hear us talk about it all, watch the video on our site!

“Why do people wear shoes?” is the deceptively straightforward question animating "Impact." A film seemingly about barefoot running, as it develops it becomes an exploration of modernity’s relationship to technology, evolution, nature, our bodies, our selves, and the human spirit.

Teage O’Connor is the one who poses that question. He aspires to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon—the race from which three Americans will be selected to run at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo—and the film follows him on that quest, along the way exploring the science, history, and lore of barefoot running. Teage trains and races almost exclusively without shoes and in “minimalist” footwear that is the antithesis of the rigid, controlling, cushioned, heavy sneakers the world is used to.

Why run in no shoes—or virtually no shoes—as Teage does? Barefoot-minimalist advocates insist the billion-dollar running shoe industry has employed slick marketing and shady science to convince the world that feet need protecting, and they find in its success a metaphor for what ails us. In "Impact" scientists, medical professionals, and runners debate shoes’ necessity. Their stances subtly become stand-ins for modernity’s technological determinism over and against an assertion that modern life runs in the opposite direction from personal health and communal well-being.

Are our feet—and our bodies more generally—broken, or are we simply not using them as designed? Anthropologists, podiatrists, and running researchers wrestle with that question in "Impact." One side insists that we break them by wearing shoes, as we must do, and only more sophisticated shoes, orthotics, and similar cures can fix them. The other, embracing the “mismatch theory of evolution,” decries the notion that something as essential as bipedalism was “designed to hurt.”

Tying it all together is Teage’s quest to land a spot in the Marathon Trial race. We join him as he runs barefooted in the bitter Vermont winter, struggles with injury, battles soul-crushing heat (and goofy interviewers) at his hometown race, attempts to best the world record for the fastest 100 kilometers ever run barefooted, and runs races from coast to coast.

In Teage we find a fierce competitor with an expansive intellect. He is our thoughtful guide not only to barefoot running but to our place in the world, arguing in the opening that we may never come around to the necessity of running in simpler shoes—and, implicitly, living saner lives—until a generational shift takes place, so seductive are modernity’s delusions.

Hundreds of Mexicans are fleeing from their war torn villages north into Texas. However, the Texas government views these "refugees" as a threat to their well being, so the Texas Rangers were given full power to do whatever they wanted to keep the "great state of Texas" safe. So, these unlawful Rangers became the judge, jury, and executioner of hundreds of Mexican refugees and Mexican Americans. This is only one story of Texas' dark history.

Victory Swim is a story of love and perseverance as Adam Ellenstein attempts a record-setting 65-mile swim to honor and inspire his aunt after she is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Short Synopsis:What do you do when someone you love is diagnosed with a debilitating disease? How can you help ease their pain and fear? How can you give them hope? Endurance athlete Adam Ellenstein asked himself those very questions when his aunt, Susan Scarlett, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. The course of this neurodegenerative disease is uncertain, but the future can be bleak… even devastating. Her walking and all her motor skills could be impaired. Her speech could become slurred. She could be wheelchair bound. The answer for Adam is to use what he is best at— ultra-distance endurance sports. His challenge is to swim the 65-mile length of Lake Okanagan in Vancouver, Canada; his goal is to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s; his true purpose is to honor and uplift his aunt and to motivate her to stay active and fit despite the physical obstacles. The 60-minute documentary Victory Swim follows Susan and Adam as they come together at this critical moment, and as a team, embark on a swim that will inspire and transform them both. The film tracks Adam and his crew as he trains for the grueling 65-mile (105-kilometer) record-setting event, and Susan as she prepares to swim a part of the lake with him. Over the course of his journey, Adam faces tests that push his body and mind to the breaking point. Through his efforts, Susan discovers an inner capacity to face her own tests—the pain and fear, and the day-to-day reality of living with a degenerative disease. Victory Swim is a story of love, perseverance, and of a positive mindset which Adam and Susan both embrace as they confront their own unique challenges.
